A Guide to the LA 2028 Venues
From the Coliseum to the Long Beach waterfront to a whitewater course in Oklahoma — where the Games actually happen.
LA28 is a Games without a purpose-built Olympic Park. Instead it stitches together venues that already exist across Southern California (and a couple beyond). Here’s the lay of the land, cluster by cluster.
Exposition Park & Downtown
The historic LA Memorial Coliseum — host stadium in both 1932 and 1984 — anchors the athletics program and shares Opening/Closing duties. Nearby, the Galen Center takes gymnastics, and Downtown’s arena and convention-center halls host indoor sports from volleyball to fencing, judo, taekwondo and table tennis.
Inglewood
The gleaming Inglewood cluster — the NFL stadium (branded the “LA28 Stadium” for the Games) and the adjacent arena — handles swimming and basketball. Building a temporary pool inside a football stadium is exactly the kind of big-stage spectacle LA28 is going for.
Long Beach
A whole coastal cluster: the arena, the aquatics center, Marine Stadium and the waterfront handle handball, water polo, artistic swimming, rowing, sailing, coastal rowing and open-water swimming. If you like your Olympics by the sea, Long Beach is the place.
The Valley, and the outliers
The San Fernando Valley complex hosts the action sports and 3x3 cluster — BMX, skateboarding, 3x3 basketball, modern pentathlon. And a couple of events travel out of the region entirely: LA28 plans to run canoe slalom and softball in Oklahoma City, where world-class facilities already exist — a pragmatic, cost-driven choice that says a lot about this Games’ philosophy.
Quick answers
Is there an Olympic Park at LA28?
No. There is no purpose-built Olympic Park — LA28 stitches together venues that already exist across Southern California, in clusters around Exposition Park and Downtown, Inglewood, Long Beach and the San Fernando Valley.
Where is swimming being held at LA28?
In the Inglewood cluster, with a temporary pool built inside the NFL stadium.
Are any LA28 events held outside Los Angeles?
Yes — LA28 plans to run canoe slalom and softball in Oklahoma City, where world-class facilities already exist. It is a pragmatic, cost-driven choice rather than a scheduling quirk.
Which venue hosts the LA28 ceremonies?
The LA Memorial Coliseum, host stadium in both 1932 and 1984, anchors the athletics programme and shares Opening and Closing Ceremony duties.
